Salsa és női vér

Magdalena Frey művészi értelmezése és módszere egy humanista megközelítésből fakad; itt a harmónia és az erő női elvekből ered. Művészeti kísérletei és kompozíciói konkrét testekre vetett hirtelen pillantások; céljuk, hogy provokatív kérdéseket vessenek fel és diszkomfortot keltsenek. A tárgyakat és helyzeteket leleplező képei átszakítják a tabukat takaró fátylakat. Frey képei új szempontot nyújtanak, ahogy sebezhetőséget közvetítenek nekünk, és ugyanakkor szembesítenek bennünket egy új fajta esztétikával.
Összes munkái közül most egy olyan sorozatot mutat be, ami tartalmazza a teljes repertoár kulcsmotívumait.
Lehetőséget kapunk a ’80-as évekbeli “fem” sorozat képeinek, az 1999-es hatalmas panel, az Erstkommunion (Elsőáldozás), és a 2006-os Maria M sorozat képeinek megismerésére, ugyanúgy, mint a régi és az új, az elmúlt 5 évben készült filmjeinek megtekintésére. Frey tavaly a mexikói Juchitan városába látogatott, ahol sikerült képeket és videó anyagokat gyűjtenie, melyek a mai napig a matriarchátus által dominált város életét dokumentálják. Juchitán – női hálózatok című filmje, ami e kutatáson alapszik, szintén részét képzi a kiállításnak. Továbbá a művész felhasználta az összegyűjtőtt képeket egy teljesen új digitális kollázs elkészítéséhez, ami szintén bemutatásra kerül e kiállításon.

Salsa and Women's Blood

 

Magdalena Frey’s artistic understanding and strategy emanate from a humanistic approach; here, balance and strength derive from female principles. Her artistic experiments and compositions evolve from abrupt glances thrown upon concrete bodies; they aim to raise provocative questions and cause feelings of discomfort. Her unmasking images of objects and situation penetrate the protective veils of taboos. Frey’s images offer us new points of view as they convey vulnerability and at the same time confront us with a new type of esthetics.

Out of her complete works, Frey has chosen a selection of images that represent key notes of her full repertoire.

We get the opportunity of enjoying images of the „fem“ series dating back to the 80ies, the vast panel Erstkommunion (First Communion) from 1999 and images of the series Maria M (2006), as well as old and recent films that were crated during the past 5 years. Frey visited Juchitán, Mexico, last year and there managed to collect images and footage documenting a city still dominated by matriarchy. Her film “Juchitan – female networks”, based on this research, forms part of the exhibition. Furthermore the artist has used the images to create a number of entirely new digital collages, also to shown in this exhibition.

Künstlerisches Verständnis und Strategien kommen bei Magdalena Frey aus einem humanen Ansatz, der seine Balance und Stärke vorwiegend aus weiblichen Prinzipien her sucht. Ihre künstlerischen Versuche und Kompositionen setzen in unvermittelter Anschauung konkreter Körper an, sodass diese immer wieder als aufreizende Fragen im Raum stehen und Unbehagen hervorrufen. Ihr entlarvender Blick auf Dinge und Situationen dringt hinter Schutzbarrieren von Tabu’s. So vermittelt uns Frey in ihren Bildern eine neue Sicht, die uns Verletzlichkeit, aber auch eine neue Ästhetik empfinden lässt.

Mit einigen wenigen Bildern führt sie uns hier in der Galerie LIGET Eckpunkte ihres Repertoires, ihres Gesamtwerkes vor.

Wir sehen hier Bilder aus dem Zyklus „fem“ aus den 80-er Jahren, die große digitale Bildtafel „Erstkommunion“ von 1999, Bilder aus dem Zyklus „Maria M“ (2006) sowie neue und alte Filme aus den letzten 5 Jahren.

Frey war im vergangenen Jahr in Juchitán / Mexiko, wo sie in einer Stadt mit einem noch bestehenden Matriachat fotografieren und filmen konnte. Aus diesen Recherchen stammt der Film „Juchitan - Frauennetze“, den wir im Rahmen der Ausstellung sehen können. Aus diesem Bildmaterial konnte die Künstlerin auch eine Reihe von ganz neuen digitalen Collagen entwickeln, die ebenfalls hier gezeigt werden.
